A well-woman visit — sometimes called an “annual physical” — is a yearly checkup with your gynecologist to talk about your health and to get preventive screenings. In general, at a well-woman visit, you:
It’s a good time to bring up any health concerns you have or to ask any questions about your body. Dr. Brodnik and his staff provide an open and non-judgmental environment and want to make sure you feel as comfortable as possible.
Pap tests — also called “Pap smears” — are sometimes part of your well-woman visit but are sometimes scheduled separately. It’s a test that checks for abnormal cells on your cervix that could lead to cervical cancer. During the test, Dr. Brodnik inserts a tool called a speculum into your vagina to open up the vaginal walls. He then goes in with a tiny spatula or brush to collect cells from your cervix, which are sent to a lab. The whole procedure takes only a few minutes, and you shouldn’t feel any pain, only a little discomfort or pressure from the speculum.
Aside from a Pap test, there are many other gynecological procedures offered by Dr. Brodnik and his staff. All of the following procedures take place in the office at Miracles of Life OB/Gyn, PLLC, so there’s no need to go to the hospital:
When you receive an abnormal Pap test, Dr. Brodnik may recommend a colposcopy, which allows him to more closely look at your cervix to see if the cells are precancerous.
If Dr. Brodnik finds abnormal cells during your colposcopy, he may do a LEEP procedure, in which he uses a small electrical wire to remove the cells from your cervix.
If Dr. Brodnik needs to look inside your uterus, he may perform a hysteroscopy, in which he uses a thin, lighted tube to examine the lining of your uterus.
If you have heavy menstrual bleeding, Dr. Brodnik may recommend endometrial ablation, a procedure that removes your uterine lining.
