Pregnancy Q & A

What is prenatal care and when should I make an appointment?

Prenatal care is the health care that you receive while you’re pregnant. It includes regular checkups and testing to monitor the health of you and your baby. Getting early prenatal care improves the chances of a safe and healthy pregnancy.

If you suspect you may be pregnant, you should schedule a visit right away with Dr. Brodnik to begin prenatal care. If you’re not yet pregnant but are thinking about it, you should schedule a preconception care visit with Dr. Brodnik — ideally at least three months before you start trying to conceive. During this visit, you’ll learn what you can do to prepare your body for pregnancy.

How often should I see my doctor during pregnancy?

When you see Dr. Brodnik, he’ll provide you with a schedule of all the doctor's visits you should have during your pregnancy. In general, however, it’s recommended that you see your OB/GYN:

  • About once a month during weeks four through 28
  • About twice a month during weeks 28 through 36
  • Every week during weeks 36 through birth

If you’re over 35, or if your pregnancy is high-risk, Dr. Brodnik will probably want to see you more often.

What happens during prenatal visits and postnatal visits?

Prenatal visits usually include physical exams, weight and blood pressure checks, and urine sample tests. Depending on the stage of your pregnancy, you might also get blood tests and imaging tests, such as ultrasound exams. Dr. Brodnik offers the latest medical technologies, including 4D ultrasounds, which use moving 3D images to create a video effect — so you can watch your baby smile, yawn, or suck their thumb.

Postnatal care is the health care you receive after giving birth, and this involves making sure you get proper rest, nutrition, and vaginal care. During both prenatal and postnatal care visits, Dr. Brodnik can answer any questions you have.

What can I do if I’m having trouble getting pregnant?

There are many possible reasons why you may not be able to get pregnant, and sometimes infertility occurs for unknown reasons. But Dr. Brodnik has years of experience with infertility care and treatments and can create a personalized plan for you and your partner.

At whatever stage you are in your pregnancy — or whether you’re in need of infertility or family planning care — Dr. Brodnik at Miracles of Life OB/Gyn, PLLC offers the highest quality services available. Call the office to get started, or schedule an appointment online.
